LUDHIANA, JANUARY 13:
The Department of Processing and Food Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a one-day training course on “Safe Processing of Sugarcane Juice into Jaggery” in which farmers from various parts of Punjab participated. The PAU experts delved on sugarcane cultivation; suitable varieties for jaggery production; insects, pests and diseases of sugarcane and their management; jaggery making process and its machinery; and processing of sugarcane juice into vinegar. The experts also explained the concept of agro-processing complex for rural entrepreneurship; and imparted hands-on-training in quality estimation technique and packaging of jaggery.
The resource persons included Dr Mahesh Kumar, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering; Dr Gurvinder Kocher, Head, Department of Microbiology; and experts Dr MS Alam, Dr TC Mittal, Dr Surekha Bhatia, Dr Lenika Kashyap, Dr SR Sharma and Dr Rajinder Kumar.
