The 550th Parkash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is being celebrated across the globe. “We feel blessed and fortunate that such mega celebrations on this occasion are taking place in historical and holy Sultanpur Lodhi town of district Kapurthala. Sometimes, we do not feel like going back to our own villages because the grand scale at which these celebrations are taking place are mesmerising,” This was stated by Sukhjinder Singh of village Sangchana in district Kapurthala, who is in Sultanpur Lodhi along with his friend Amar Singh.
There are lakhs of pilgrims like Sukhjinder Singh and Amar Singh, who are participating in the 550th Parkash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Sultanpur Lodhi. Even though there is a sea of devotees at Sultanpur Lodhi, but there is no shortage of arrangements.
When one enters Sultanpur Lodhi, he/she is welcomed by well carpeted roads and elaborate arrangements have been made for langar, drinking water, cleanliness, transport, parking etc. Thousands of police personnel and young volunteers have been deputed near Railway Station and Bus Stands, who assist the pilgrims in going towards the right direction. At the 19 parking sites (4 outer parkings), along with parking, help desks, arrangements for langar, drinking water etc have been provided. When one comes out of the parking, the pilgrims can avail free e-rickshaw service.
Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala DPS Kharbanda informed that 71 e-rickshaws have been deputed at parking site near Udham Singh Chowk, 96 near Jasbir Cinema, 24 near tent city-1, 28 near parking number 10 and 28 e-rickshaws near parking number 11. The main purpose of deputing these e-rickshaws is to ensure that senior citizens and other pilgrims do not face any problem in reaching their destination. The e-rickshaws ply during both day as well as night time. Facility of mini buses have been provided from parking number 11 to 17 (main pandal) and for proper supervision of the e-rickshaw service, three 3-member teams have been set up.
A government spokesperson informed that besides the e-rickshaw service, proper arrangements of electricity, water, plastic and solid waste disposal have been made at 71 langar places by District Administration and Nagar Council. PSPCL has provided electricity connections at all langar places. A one of its kind 66 KV sub station with underground cables have been set up near Arya Samaj Chowk, besides the electricity supply is also provided from other sub stations. A total of 52 connections have been provided for langar’s. Elaborate arrangements have also been made for disposal of both dry and wet solid waste.
A spokesperson of the Local Government department informed that 200 compost pits have been prepared for proper disposal of solid waste and waste food of langar’s. Several public toilets and around 3000 garbage bins have also been set up in different parts of the town. A workforce of more than 4500 persons has been deputed for maintaining cleanliness and 45 e-rehri’s have been deputed for dumping of solid waste at the right place.
To ensure that the town remains plastic free, plastic bottle shredding machines have been installed by the Punjab Pollution Control Board near Gurudwara Shri Ber Sahib and New Bus Stand. Each machine can shred 2000 plastic bottles at one time. For providing potable drinking water, 8 tube-wells, 131 storage tanks, 107 steel tanks and 10 water ATMs have been deputed in the town.
Gurmeet Kaur of village Rasoolpur appreciated the efforts of Punjab government for pilgrims and stated that she has availed free e-rickshaw service to pay obeisance at the Gurudwaras. She also showed satisfaction over the arrangements of langar, drinking water etc in Sultanpur Lodhi.
