Responding immediately to the reports of some areas of the district remaining under served during the curfew and some of the phone numbers of those responsible being not functional, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar, Mr. Girish Dayalan informed that to ensure essential supplies of food, milk and medicines door to door and neighborhood delivery through hawkers/ street vendors, the District Administration has taken measures to redress the issue .
Giving details of steps taken commodity wise, he said that
In case of Milk , there is about 65000 liters of milk supplied in the city but only about 45000 could be delivered on Wednesday as some distributors refused taking orders at the last moment citing fear of payments, banks (esp. cooperative banks) being closed. This issue has been sorted and today orders of 70000 liters have been placed which is over and above the normal supply. Smaller dairies and milkmen have also been issued passes to deliver milk in the morning. Infact, tankers of the unutilized milk were sent for processing into powdered milk, to ensure continued collection from farmers. Administration expects all areas to be much better served henceforth. In case of supply of Vegetables,Mohali city has been divided into areas and pre-packed packets of essential vegetables (potato, onions, tomato, cauliflower etc.) will be taken on carts in different neighborhoods during the day. They will also take orders for the next day. (Supply lines have been strengthened as per List B)
For Groceries an Exhaustive list of neighborhood shops with contact numbers is being published. They have been tied up for home delivery in their local areas.(as per List C)
Besides, supply through Departmental Stores/ Online Delivery has been facilitated. Bigger stores such as Reliance, Big Basket, Bhejo.co, More, 24x7, D-Mart, Best-Price, Grofers have been tied up. They will make home deliveries in their local areas. (List D)
For medicines, Nodal chemist shops have also been tied up and they shall also deliver at homes.(List E)
Deputy Commissioner asserted that all these shops shall work with their shutters-down. There shall be no in-shop/ walk-in purchases. He requested the Residents to call these numbers/ place their orders for home delivery.
He made an appeal to the people that all may only buy the daily required quantities. This will ensure wider household coverage and assured a regular continued supply. He said that administration would also be starting mobile ATMs shortly.
He requested one and all that in the first instance, the local shops / online portals/ phone delivery numbers as listed may be contacted. In case, there is still any issue, officers have also been designated for different items in different areas. (List F). In order to provide for cooked food to homeless poor and destitute, a separate dedicated helpline (94637-75070) has been set up. Many calls offering donations for this purpose were being received, said he.
