The role of women cannot be ignored in attaining socio economic development of the country. A number of Indian women like Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams and popularly known as Human Computer Shakutala Devi have brought laurels to our nation. The dream of India to become super power can be achieved provided equal opportunities are given to both boys and girls in the field of Science & Technology. This was expressed by Dr. Neelima Jearth Director General Science City on the occasion of National Science Day celebration at Science City. The day was celebrated in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science &Technology and Science City. National Science Day is an occasion to recollect the achievements of India in the field of science and technology.Further National Science Day is celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm on 28th February to mark the invention of the Raman effect in India by the Indian Physicist, Sir C.V Raman on the same day in the year 1928.
She stressed on the need to enhance public awareness of the importance of science and technology in every day life. Dissemination of scientific information on various aspects to dispel superstitions and illogical beliefs prevailing in the Society. She added.
Dr. Promila Pathak Prof. Botany, Panjab University Chandigarh said that, science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals. Over the past 15 years lot of efforts have been made to inspiring and engage women and girls in science. Yet women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science. The theme of National Science Day for the year 2020 is women in Science .Therefore, this is an occasion to celebrate achievement of women in science as will as emphasize the need gander equality in this field.
. She added we need incurage young women and girls students to undertake more and more science education so as to make a career in this digital era.
Results of competition : In quiz competition Teams of Swami Sant Dass School Jalandhar stood first and third and St. Joshpeh Boy School Jalandhar got second prize.
Science Play : Guru Nanak Mission school Dalla Bhogpur clinched first prize, Govt. Sen. Sec. School Wadala Kalan Kapurthala got second prize a and Amar Nath High school has received third prize.
